Project overview

Phase one of the seismic and capital renewal project at UCSC Porter College is a major remodel of dormitory Building B and the dining commons Building C.  Both buildings were abated of all hazardous materials with the interiors being removed down to the stud framing. The 5th floor of the concrete dormitory building was demolished and a new steel framed 5th and 6th floor was erected. The electrical scope of work in the dormitory building included replacing all of the existing electrical panels and feeders. All of the existing lighting was removed and replaced with energy efficient fixtures and lighting controls. New data, phone and television cabling infrastructure was installed. The entire fire alarm system was removed and replaced with a new code compliant system.  The dining commons building involved the demolishing the existing kitchen area and replacing it. The existing electrical power distribution system was reconfigured and connected to new distribution panels in the building. A new 60kw emergency and 400kw stand-by generators were installed.
