SMUD East Campus Operations Center

Project overview

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) East Campus Operations Center is a net-zero facility for the SMUD operations, planning, maintenance and a power grid control center for the Sacramento area Electrical Utility. This net-zero facility includes a six-story office building with redundant power distribution systems, standby generators, and multiple UPS systems for reliability. LED light sources and a progressive chilled-slab mechanical system are also highlights of this energy efficient project. The design includes BIM/3D and extensive energy modeling throughout the design and construction phase.

Redwood Electric Group's scope also included providing the fire alarm and security systems. Telecommunications/data cabling for present and future needs are included in the  telecommunications, security, and fire alarm  portions of the project. Photovoltaic panel arrays with automated sun-tracking drives and  controllers will provide 1MW of power to achieve  the net-zero feature of this green-field project and  will carry SMUD’s operations base forward for the next 60 years.
