Sacramento Central Utility Plant Renovation

Project overview

The Sacramento Central Utility Plant Renovation Project consisted of a two-story, 19,000 ton chiller/boiler plant, LEED Platinum, fully automated 4160-volt distribution, VFD plant with five million gallon thermal storage tank (TES), steam turbine generator and three (3) 4160V, 7.4 MVA medium voltage SMUD services. The Plant also includes five (5) 2715 chillers, and two (2) 1360 chillers.

This state-of-the-art facility is constructed around the existing outdated plant, and is required to be tied in with no interruption of service to the 23 state office buildings that are supported by the new plant.
