Alta Bates Summit Medical Center Patient Care Pavilion

Project overview

The PCP (Patient Care Pavilion) is 11 floors of patient beds, sometimes referred to as the “Bed Tower” and was a joint effort Design Build Project by REG Life Safety Division and ECOM Engineering, Inc. with full OSHPD oversight and multiple phased projects running consecutively.  The new “Bed Tower” presented many unique challenges from its curved design to its direct connection to the existing fully functional hospital.

There are two completely independent full voice fire life safety systems that are separated by the “Connector” project where each system monitors right up to its side but allowing for control and compartmentalization from either system.  With an eye on long term compliance with UUKL and annual operating costs, REG Life Safety Division designed and engineered a damper status panel which provided the required fire smoke damper testing with full supervision and supporting documentation while maintaining the stairwell pressurization only classification.

With full control of all security and auto door operator’s, we are able to maintain attainable egress passage to the required public way.  REG’s Life Safety Division also designed, engineered and provided a complete rescue assistance system and a fully integrated paging system.
